Trainings by TrAC – Fall 2025

The Translational AI Center (TrAC) at Iowa State University is excited to offer a comprehensive lineup of AI and machine learning training opportunities for Fall 2025. Our programs are designed to meet the diverse needs of students, professionals, and researchers looking to advance their skills in artificial intelligence.

1. TrAC Micro-Credential ShortCourses

Comprehensive 4-Week Online Courses with Digital Badges

TrAC micro-credentials are compact, targeted programs that allow you to gain and showcase specific skills through focused learning experiences. Upon completion, you earn a digital badge—a modern, shareable symbol of your achievement that validates your expertise.

Available Fall 2025 Courses:

  • Scientific Machine Learning (SciML) – Learn physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) and state-of-the-art neural operators
  • End-to-End Natural Language Processing – Master text processing, prompt engineering, RAG, and custom NLP model development
  • End-to-End Computer Vision – Develop CV models for classification, detection, and segmentation using PyTorch
  • Reinforcement Learning – Master value-based and policy-based RL algorithms for sequential decision-making
  • Mastering PyTorch – Master PyTorch, an open-source deep learning framework for AI, covering everything from Tensors computations to custom architectures and advanced functions

Course Details:

  • Duration: 4-week instructional period
  • Format: Asynchronous, self-paced recorded videos with live sessions
  • Completion: Badge completion time is ~60 days
  • Cost: $500 for industry professionals, $300 for ISU staff/government employees; ISU students can take it for credit for free of cost.

2. TrAC Intensive Tutorials

8-Hour Deep Dives into Trending AI Topics

This semester, TrAC is launching a new series of intensive 8-hour tutorials focusing on the most current and trending topics in artificial intelligence. These hands-on workshops are designed for professionals and researchers who want to quickly get up to speed on cutting-edge AI techniques.

Fall 2025 Tutorial Topics:

🤖 Agentic AI – Learn to build autonomous AI agents that can reason, plan, and take actions
🔄 Multimodal Models – Master the integration of text, vision, and audio in AI systems
📊 Tabular and Forecasting Foundation Models – Explore specialized models for structured data and time series prediction
🔮 Additional Topic – To be determined based on latest AI developments

Tutorial Format:

  • Duration: 8 hours (typically split across 2 days or weekend sessions)
  • Style: Intensive, hands-on workshops with expert instructors
  • Focus: Latest trends and practical implementation techniques
  • Target Audience: AI practitioners, researchers, and advanced students

3. TrAC × HPC Collaboration Series

Advanced Computing for AI Applications

TrAC is partnering with Iowa State University’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) team to deliver specialized courses that combine AI/ML techniques with advanced computing infrastructure.

Coming Soon:

  • Distributed computing for large-scale AI applications
  • Courses focusing on scalable AI model training
  • GPU acceleration for machine learning workloads

4. TrAC × ISU Library Partnership

Research-Focused AI Skills Development

In collaboration with the ISU Library, TrAC is contributing to several workshops designed to help researchers and students integrate AI tools into their academic and research workflows.

TrAC-Led Sessions in the Library Workshop Series:

September 2025:

  • Fundamentals of Deep Learning – 1-5 p.m., Mondays, Sept. 15 and 22, 2025, led by Aditya Balu

October 2025:

  • Generative AI with Diffusion Models – 1-5 p.m., Mondays, Oct. 6 and 13, 2025, led by Aditya Balu
  • Fundamentals of Accelerated Computing with CUDA C/C++ – 1-5 p.m., Mondays, Oct. 27 and Nov. 3, 2025, led by Adarsh Krishnamurthy

Additional Library Workshops (relevant to AI practitioners):

  • Avoiding AI Fails, Data Viz 101, Introduction to Python for Non-programmers, Basic Data Cleaning with OpenRefine, and Exploring Free Tools for Text Analysis
